3 superb smoothies to step into 2020

Berries, bananas, bursting full of goodness – whether you’re a smoothie hater or lover, this collection of easy to make beverages will be perfect for the new year and a January health boost!

Dreaded, and yet it has come – the time to return to school, work or whatever goes on in your busy work schedule. But one thing you can look forward to, besides the first weekend of the working week, is the sweet, simple smoothies in this recipe post, which will have you feeling as fit as an Ox (a clique, I know) as your propel your fitness routine onward to recover from those oh too good Christmas treats – once you’ve finished them of course!

Luscious. Easy. Healthy. Take my words that that is all that is needed to be said for these smoothies, as I have had a smoothie for breakfast everyday for the past three years – no, I’m kidding I really have! Commuting to school each day I really have found smoothies the most pliable option for me in the mornings and they allow me to pack in a tremendous amount of my nutrition, cruciferous vegetables and satisfy my sweet taste buds. 🙂

Since consuming “nutriblasts” regularly my skin has become clear, I have a faster metabolism, experienced some weight loss and they definitely helped my digestive health! However, most of all I’m extremely thankful that they have broadened my diet my allowing me to try new foods and create an even more varied diet! Due to this, if you or anyone you know is a fussy eater, I strongly recommend you get making some smoothies!

These three smoothie recipes I have specially selected and have had practically weekly for the past three years, so I hope you enjoy them as much as I do! Xx

BLUEBERRY SPIRULINA SMOOTHIE

Do not be dissuaded by the green hue! Instead, take that soft malachite pigmentation as that of nutritious, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, cholesterol-lowering goodness. As that is what it is – so please don’t be scared!

The base ingredients of blueberries, kale and spirulina make this smoothie especially great to decrease the chances of heart disease, diabetes, cancer as well as relieving constipation. Kale is the most nutritious leafy green we know of and an excellent source of vitamin K; vital for blood clotting and also the maintenance of our bones. Not to mention spirulina; worthy of the “superfood” title all on its own! It is the most nutritious food on the planet, hence we really should be consuming it when we can!

MANGO MACA BLISS

Creamy and lucious, this smoothie tastes more like a sugary treat than a healthy breakfast or superfood snack for two! Mango and maca are a beautiful flavour combination where tropical sweetness is married to a nutty, earthy-vanilla flavour? It is hard to describe as it is a flavour of its own; all the more reason for you to try it!

Maca is notably high in vitamin C; essential for the protection and health of cells, healthy skin, as well as wound healing. Copper and Iron are used together for the production of red blood cells and supporting the immune system. In addition, one word for maca: hormones. Maca particularly is great for increasing fertility in men, reducing the symptoms of menopause, increase libido as well as improving mood as it has been proven to reduce anxiety.

CHOCOLATE CHERRY TREAT

This is definitely one of my favourite (sorry I just could not resist throwing that fact out there)! The cacao tastes like harmony with the sweet, dark, juicy cherries; I  guarantee you that this combination will be one of the best you ever try and nonetheless nutritionally dense. But don’t be deceived – even in this magical concoction, it’s packed with hearty, fibre rich kale – which only gives this smoothie bonus points for being dessert and breakfast! 🙂

Firstly cacao is different from cocoa as it is unroasted and cold-pressed from the cacao bean, not to mention without added sugars. This maintains the exceptional nutritional value of the cacao meaning it’s a great source of antioxidants, magnesium, potassium, iron and monounsaturated fats. Cacao contains approximately three time the antioxidant content than cocoa! Antioxidants decrease oxidative stress warding of the symptoms of aging, cancer, diabetes and heart disease.

The monounsaturated fats in the cacao both satiate your appetite with the satisfaction of energy dense food, but also decrease your LDL cholesterol meaning they can contribute to a decreased risk of heart disease, cancer, inflammation and assist in weight loss.

Overall, the outstanding levels of antioxidants, anti-inflammatory properties, fibre, magnesium and potassium in this smoothie make it great for active people or for people recovering from an operation. This is because the health benefits are greater exercise recovery, an increased lymphedema system, maintenance of the nervous system, muscle contractions and blood pressure circulation in addition to many more…
